Grants Pass Public Safety Building

The Grants Pass Public Safety Building represents a major step forward for the city’s commitment to community safety, efficiency, and public service. Designed to serve as the new home of the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety, the renovated facility provides a modern, functional, and welcoming headquarters where law enforcement professionals can better serve the community.

Deputy Chief Jim Hamilton described the department’s vision clearly: to create “something current and modern—something the public can come to and we can more efficiently work out of.” The design goals focused on ensuring the building is not only operationally effective but also a point of pride for both the agency and the citizens of Grants Pass.

Goals for the Grants Pass Public Safety Building

The renovation and expansion project was guided by three central priorities: efficiency, resiliency, and community accessibility.

Efficiency

The new layout and infrastructure were designed to streamline operations, allowing officers and staff to collaborate effectively while improving public access and safety. Upgrades to building systems and facilities ensure that daily operations can be carried out more effectively in a space purpose-built for modern law enforcement.

Resiliency

During construction, previously unknown structural and site challenges—such as a failed drainage system and undersized storm pipes—were uncovered. Rather than opting for temporary fixes, the city chose to replace the entire drainage system, rebuild the parking lot, and bring the facility’s infrastructure up to current standards. This commitment to doing the project right ensures long-term reliability and sustainability, preventing costly repairs in the future.

Community Accessibility and Pride

The building was also envisioned as a community-centered public safety hub—a place where residents feel comfortable visiting, whether to access services, attend meetings, or participate in outreach programs. Thoughtful design details emphasize openness, approachability, and civic pride.

By addressing infrastructure challenges head-on and focusing on modern, resilient design, the Grants Pass Public Safety Building stands as a durable and forward-thinking facility—one that supports the evolving needs of law enforcement while strengthening trust and connection between the department and the community it serves.
